Fallsview Casino lighting up the night sky.
Last Saturday night we decided to add a little excitement to our date night – and took a trip into Niagara Falls for a casino date!
While I am certainly not a gambler, I’ve always been a little fascinated by casinos. The bright lights, ringing bells, the drinks – it’s all very exciting! Anything can happen!
Before we left we both decided that we would only spend $20 each gambling. With my fresh, crisp $20 bill I proudly walked into the casino. As many can relate, it’s a little intimidating when you first walk in. There are no clocks, no exit signs, everything kinda looks the same, and there are literally hundreds of people everywhere – it’s so easy to get lost or caught up in the whole experience.
To start, we decided to walk around and check out the place before jumping in.
I couldn’t believe the amount of people, and the amount of money and chips that were being passed around! We decided to walk right past the poker and blackjack tables and ease into the night with the slot machines. That’s when a Dirt Dancing slot machine caught my eye (AMAZING!). Instead of cherries and 7′s this machine featured Dirty Dancing character faces! Get 3 Johnny’s in a row and you win! I sat right down. I was so excited to pull the leaver for the first time! The excitement slowly faded after I spent $5 (it was a 50 cent machine – I know, I know, I’m a big spender) and didn’t even win once!

After the slots we decided to take our chances at the roulette table. I’m not 100% on the rules of roulette, so I decided to play it safe and only bet on black or red to start. It was so exciting watching the little ball rolling around waiting to see where it would land. Red! Yes! I won! Red again! Won again! Adam was a little riskier and started betting on numbers – and also started losing. He ran out of money in no time. As my lucky streak started fading, I decided to walk away and head back to the slot machines with my remaining $5. I generously divided it between Adam and I (talk about a sugar momma!) and hit the 5 cent slot machine for the rest of the evening.
I have to admit, I had so much fun playing the 5 cent machines – every time I won, even if it was only 50 cents, I got so excited!
Our money eventually ran out and while it was so tempting to get out another $20 and continue the date, we decided to head home. Overall I had such a fun night.
Pro Tips
- Set a price limit. It’s easy to get carried away in the casino. Decide ahead of time how much you are willing to spend and then stick to it. It’s better to go home happy with your date than miserable that you lost too much money.
- Bring a watch! There are no clocks in casino and it’s very easy to loose track of time.
- Don’t spend too much time at the tables where the main interaction is between you and the dealer. Spend the time with your partner! Find two slot machines where you can sit together and talk as you play.
Do you ever gamble at the casinos? Whats your favourite game to play?

From Adam:
I'll be honest - I am not a big fan of casinos. I'm not much of a gambler and I feel like casinos are designed to suck you in and take all of your money.
That being said, with some ground rules in place Ashley and I had a lot of fun. Her excitement was infectious and it was kind of neat to see so many many branded games. From Dirty Dancing to Elvis and Battleship, they really pull out all of the stops to try and keep things interesting.

I am not good with Casinos… I hate wasting my money! I mean, if I am going to spend $20 I will buy myself something that I can feel and see. I have gone and spend my limit (which was also $20) but I am still whining about it
Glad to hear you had a great date night. Visiting from SITS, make it a great day!
Completely agree with you Marge! When you could spend $20 on something tangible (or at least delicious) spending it at a casino can seem like a waste. We looked at it like a rather cheap way to spend a few hours together (provided you can make it last) and in those terms it doesn’t seem quite so wasteful
I LOVE the idea of your blog. It is so fun. I love that your husband participates too. Not sure we would try a Casino date night, but I’ll be stopping by again.
I love the concept behind your blog! I’m not big on casinos myself, but I can see that if you approach something as a date and with a positive attitude, it’s all good. I’ll definitely be back!
I’ve played the slot machines a time or two and my husband had to peel me away. Wheel of Fortune is my favorite! I’m visiting from SITS, by the way!
