We’ve had a lot going on recently and so after another busy and stressful week I thought Adam and I could use a little pampering. I had been looking for an excuse to book us a couple’s massage for a while and so I took this as the perfect opportunity. I was really looking forward to the experience but as is the case sometimes, Adam needed a bit of coercing. I guess some guys just don’t get the appeal of spa treatments.
I booked our massage at SilveryBlue Butterfly as they came highly recommended and as soon as we arrived, I could see why. The staff were very professional and friendly and the atmosphere was very calm and almost zen-like. The facility was clean and the music soothing. Things were shaping up for a nice relaxing time.
After checking in, Adam and I were escorted to the dressing rooms and given robes and slippers to change into. I couldn’t help but laugh when Adam stepped out of the change room wearing what was clearly a women’s robe and two left-footed slippers. For someone who was hesitant about the experience I felt bad that he wasn’t off to a better start. We got Adam into the proper attire and were then at leisure to enjoy the spa’s facilities including a hot tub, steam room and sauna. We chose instead to relax in over-sized arm chairs and sip green tea until we were called.
For anyone who hasn’t had a couple’s massage before, it is essentially the same as a regular massage except your partner is in the same room as you. I thought having Adam lie beside me might be distracting – especially having a woman rub oil all over him – but as soon as we got started I lost track of him and just enjoyed the next 50 minutes.
After the massage, we relaxed a little more in the sauna before heading home.
The spa we chose was a little pricier than other places I’ve been to in the past, but provided the extra amenities it was worthwhile. Sometimes, it’s just nice to treat yourselves.
As much as we try to not review establishments when we write about our dates, I feel like our choice of spa for this one made a big difference in the overall experience. More than anything I think that choosing a reputable spa was important. The nice thing in this case is that most urban areas should offer a few choices that are similar to where we went.
Pro Tips:
- Research your choice of spa beforehand. Some spas can seem ‘clinical’ while others are geared more towards relaxation. If you want a nice atmosphere you’ll need to be prepared to pay a bit more.
- If you can arrange it, try to get your couple’s massage performed by an RMT. A lot of insurance plans cover this and it can save you some serious money.
Have you ever had a couple’s massage before? Did your partner enjoy it? Have you ever had any issues with jealousy?

From Adam:
A stranger rubbing their hands all over me? Being in a bath robe in a public place? Yeah that's my idea of a good time.
I just don't get why woman love massages so much. Yes they are relaxing, but not THAT relaxing. Add that to the cost of pampering yourself and I'd rather relax with my feet up and a cold beer.
All that being said, I knew Ashley wanted to do this and I knew that I would have to put on a smile and try to enjoy myself. Looking back I can say it wasn't as bad as I thought and despite the embarrassment of being given women's clothing I can say that are far worse ways to spend your Friday evening.

I’m female, but I’ll have to say I see it more from Adam’s perspective on this one. I don’t think I *could* grin & bear it, so hats off to you Adam! Besides being very uncomfortable being touched by someone & being in public in a robe (which I recognize as my own preferences which are not the usual, especially among the “spa crowd”), there is NO WAY I’d be even remotely ok with a woman even touching my man *at all*, and there aren’t enough never-evers to cover that including “undressed”, “oil”, and “all-over”! Sorry, can’t recommend this one.
